CANDY-COLORED EYE MAKEUP IS THE CHEERY BEAUTY TREND TAKING OVER THE SPRING RUNWAYS
Tiny electric lights with striking, any but subtle shapes are about to become a big moment in eye makeup. At least, that’s what the spring 2022 runways at New York Fashion Week seem to herald.
An array of designers have chosen eyeshadows and primers in candy colors such as bubblegum pink, licorice red, lemon yellow, mint green and artificial raspberry green to go with their latest collection. These aren’t just elusive strokes of pigment or small touches – Spring 2022’s more and more makeup creams are all about impact, stretching all the way from the lash line. to the eyebrows, completely contouring the eyes or creating a smoky effect for both the inner and outer corners.
For LaQuan Smith’s show, makeup artist Sheika Daley created exaggerated cat eyes in a variety of tones, including candy apple crimson and sapphire on the sour loin tongue, making them add drama. The Bibhu Mohapatra runway look combines a multicolored ombré effect with creamy nuances like lemon yellow and punch scarlet. Rachel Comey’s models meticulously apply eye makeup to look as if it’s been hand-painted with a range of colors and shapes, no two are alike.
Undeniably cheerful, decidedly unfussy and downright upbeat, this beauty trend evokes a childlike joy – shopping at the candy store, going to your mom’s makeup store and try everything, make up just to unleash its creativity and fun. Honestly, it was a hell of a lot of fun.
